Avoid Type 2 Diabetes

Millions of people do not know they have diabetes, and millions of others are at risk of developing the condition.

Health experts have long preached the importance of diet and exercise in combating diabetes as well as other health conditions. But now the research is clear: to prevent or control Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), exercise and eat healthy foods.

A group of studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine concluded that diet and physical activity programs provide “strong evidence of effectiveness” in avoiding or controlling T2D. The most effective programs included trainers, coaching, and extended support. The more intensive the programs, the more effective they were in reducing T2D, decreasing weight and fasting blood glucose, and improving risk factors such as blood pressure and cholesterol.

Why does one more study matter? The more the scientific evidence accumulates, the easier it is to get motivated. This new research bolsters standard medical advice, showing that eating nutritiously and moving more really DO reduce the risk of developing T2D.

So what are you waiting for? Get moving, and don’t forget to eat your veggies!
